Letter to President Obama

Chattanooga

Below is the text of a letter I sent President Obama today via the WhiteHouse.gov contact form.

TEXT OF LETTER:

Mr. President,

Last week, four United States Marines and a United States Navy petty officer were killed in a Chattanooga, TN shooting that has all of the hallmarks of an act of terrorism.  My constituents are expressing concern and anger that you have not ordered the U.S. Flag lowered to half-mast to honor those who were killed in Chattanooga, and I share their sentiments.

You previously issued same-day orders lowering the flag following the the July 20, 2012 Aurora, Colorado mass shooting, December 14, 2012 Sandy Hook, Connecticut mass shooting and the September 16, 2013 Washington Navy Yard mass shooting.  You also ordered the flag flown at half-staff the day after the November 5, 2009 Fort Hood, Texas massacre.  The Marines and Navy officer who were killed in Chattanooga deserve the same respect.

I strongly encourage you, as our Commander-in-Chief, to order the flags lowered to half mast in honor of those who were killed in Chattanooga.

Sincerely,

Frank Williams
County Commissioner
Brunswick County, N.C.
