Brunswick County Schools seeking public input as accreditation visit approaches

From Brunswick County Public Schools:
Accreditation provides assurances to institutes of higher education and employers that our diplomas represent a rigorous course of study and valuable experiences that help prepare our students for their futures.
System and school leaders are currently preparing for our required 5 year external review which will take place April 2-5, 2017.  During this week we will welcome members of a 6 person team of educators from North Carolina, Florida, and Kentucky.  These individuals are highly skilled in their understanding of the 5 AdvancED Quality Standards:  Purpose and Direction, Governance and Leadership, Teaching and Assessing for Learning, Resources and Support Systems, and Using Results for Continuous Improvement.
During the external review, our guests will interview various staff, parents, and community members.  They will visit at least 1/3 of our schools and spend time in our classrooms.  Most importantly, at the end of their visit they will offer us feedback on the practices bringing about positive results and those areas where we can continue to improve. Feedback will be provided during a Special Called Meeting of the Board of Education on Wednesday, April 5, 2017.   We embrace this feedback because we are committed to a process of continuous improvement.  The better we are the more successful our students will be!
Prior to the team’s arrival they will review written information provided to them as well as NC Report Card information and information available on our website.  All 19 schools as well as our system are required to submit the following written information:
  • Executive Summary
  • Self-Assessment of the 5 AdvancED Quality Standards
  • Student Performance Diagnotic
  • Stakeholder Feedback Diagnostic
  • Assurances
Prior to submitting the district’s online documents we are seeking input on the system’s draft Executive Summary and Self-Assessment. The public is invited to join us for an interactive session to review this information.  While we are excited to receive community feedback, we also hope this session will also help familiarize individuals with the AdvancED standards and what can be expected during the upcoming visit.

Where? Brunswick County Academy Gym
Time?   5:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m.
