Comments on the Brunswick County Fire Commission
Last August, the Brunswick County Board of Commissioners appointed members to the newly-formed Brunswick County Fire Commission (click here for info).
As this article from the State Port Pilot and this article from the Star-News reveal, the Fire Commission has become somewhat contentious.
I recently signed a letter on behalf of the Board of Commissioners correcting the record on several issues and rumors that have circulated about the intent and purpose of the Fire Commission. The letter, which was distributed to Fire Departments and other key stakeholders, can be viewed here.
Additionally, I personally believe we need to take a step back and examine fire protection in Brunswick County from a big-picture, holistic perspective. We need to consider the situation and needs of the forest and develop a forest management plan before zeroing in on each individual tree in the forest.
